Along Weston Road, just south of Lawrence Avenue West, lies a row of quaint brick buildings. The two-storey structures house an array of businesses, including a beauty supply store and a school, topped with eight one-bedroom apartments. Soon, though, the site may be unrecognizable.

Developers Castlepoint Numa has proposed a new 45-storey tower for the block, stretching from 1828 to 1844 Weston Road, with a new address of 1830 Weston Road.

Perched atop a six-storey podium, the mixed-use development would contain 562 residential units and over 4,500 sq. ft. of retail space, resulting in a density equivalent to 16.7 times the area of the lot.

Comprised of 65 studio units, 355 one-bedrooms, 85 two-bedrooms, and 57 three-bedrooms, developers say the building will improve “the diversity of housing options” available in Weston Village. While the units will be predominantly condos, the eight pre-existing rental apartments will be replaced.

The range of unit sizes will accommodate young professionals, families with children, and seniors, Castlepoint Numa noted.

The tower will also include 2,253 sq. m of residential amenity space, 115 underground parking spaces, and 681 short and long-term bicycle parking spots.

Designed by Studio JCI, the sleek building’s cladding and window patterns create a rhythmic element that adds visual interest to the facade. Dubbed a “high-quality architectural addition,” the tower is topped with a 10.4-m coloured glass enclosure.

Above the podium, the building is broken into two elements: a square “lower tower” that rise from floors seven to 17, and a svelte “upper tower” stretching from floors 18 to 45.

The site is conveniently located across the street from the Weston GO Station, which connects to the UP Express and the Kitchener GO train line. It’s also well-served by current TTC bus routes and will provide easy access to the proposed Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, the Ontario Line, and the Yonge North Subway Extension.

Castlepoint Numa says the proposed mixed-use development will revitalize the neighborhood with high-quality housing and commercial opportunities that contribute to a “comfortable, animated streetscape along Weston Road.”
